Mike swapped his usual machinery for a unique guest appearance at a scorching hot Cadwell Park, stepping up to showcase the Yamaha Past Masters (YPM) club-funded rental bike.
The YPM championship features a brilliant initiative where YPM riders contribute toward a shared TZR250 rental machine. Built for ultimate reliability, the bike is available for anyone looking to secure an affordable taste of the class, the paddock, and the bikes.
For Mike, the weekend was a proper time machine. Having last raced a TZR250 at Cadwell Park way back in 1987, he found himself lining up on the grid alongside two familiar rivals from that exact era, Dave Ball and Alan Cooper.
The Weekend Breakdown:
  • The Weather: Blistering heat saw bike temperatures soar past 90 degrees, making it a physical endurance test for both rider and machine.
  • The Sprint Races: Pushing the reliable rental bike to its absolute limit, Mike secured a fantastic 2nd place in the opening races behind the class champion.
  • The Rain Delay: When torrential rain hit before race three, Mike opted out due to a lack of wet tyres. This choice forced him to start the final race from the back of the grid, where he thrashed the TZR250 all the way back up to a superb 2nd place finish.
The weekend wasn't without its classic paddock drama. Finding himself on the grid for the wet race on dry tyres, Mike decided the risk wasn't worth it after passing Hall Bends. Instead of completing the warm-up lap, he took an immediate detour off the track, riding directly through the barriers and up the pedestrian walkway to the top of the Mountain to return to the collecting area—surprisingly escaping a telling-off from the marshals!
A massive thank you goes to the entire Yamaha Past Masters grid for keeping this fantastic class alive and welcoming new talent into the paddock.
🏁 Next Race: Anglesey (29th–30th August 2026) for the penultimate round of the CRMC Supermono Championship.
