Jake “Baldy 54” Anderton wrapped up his season at the final round of the BEMSEE championship, capping off a limited but highly successful campaign aboard his 2020 Kawasaki ZX636.
Jake bought his race panels from RatMally Ambassador Jamie Richmond complete with a full RatMally RaceWrap and was so impressed by the quality and durability of the wrap that he got in touch with us to order a freshen up—and joined the ambassador crew in the process.
Due to a new addition to his family, Jake only lined up for five of the nine rounds this year, but he made every single track appearance count by smashing his personal bests at almost every circuit on the calendar.
The season finale served up completely unexpected conditions for the final round of the year, greeting the paddock with glorious, 21-degree sunshine.
In qualifying, Jake opted to run a scrub rear tyre to save his fresh rubber for the main events. The gamble left him 10th on the grid, but when the lights went out for the races Jake kept his focus on the job at hand.
He describes Race 1 as one of the best of season battling with another rider to secure 5th place. Race 2 was quieter and lonelier experience to come home safely in 7th. Finally race 3 was the absolute highlight of the weekend. Jake locked into a fierce, elbows-out battle where riders were taking chunks out of each other for the entire duration, crossing the line in 5th place.
More importantly, that final race saw Jake shatter his personal best lap time by a massive 0.3 seconds, setting a blistering new benchmark of 49.4 seconds.
The weekend also treated the paddock to some unique drama via the "Beat Bob Challenge," where a massive £15,000 cash pot was put up for any rookie who could beat Bob Collins' long-standing lap record. In a finish you couldn't make up, one of the rookies matched the legendary record exactly to the millisecond.
With the bike running flawlessly, it was a perfect end to the year. Jake is now stepping away from the grid for the winter break, with his next competitive outing locked in for the 2027 season opener.
